OPEN TALK: Building an AI Assistant - Tales from the Trenches

In this session, we'll cover 10 lessons we had to learn - the hard way - by building a AI-powered assistant: Ozlo.

We've been working on Ozlo for over 3 years now. And, as the AI and conversational search landscape has grown over the last few years, we've evolved our thinking from the days of a blank search box. But, what does it take to build a truly compelling conversational search experience?
In this session, we'll cover a breadth of technical strategies that we consider to be the pillars of AI-powered bots:
- How "big" is "big data"? What does it take to ingest, resolve and reason about the 100s of millions of entities in the world?
- What NLP tools and techniques make the most sense to deploy in an environment where users are talking, not typing?
- What does a dialog system that fulfills the need for a fluid, back and forth, conversation with the user look like?
- How does such a system generate natural sounding, and grammatically correct responses back to the user?
- Finally, how do we measure all this to make sure the user is having a great experience with your product?

OPEN TALK: Winter is Coming for Microservice Complexity - Challenges with Docker Apps
As we embrace Docker and microservices across many areas of our business, we find ourselves facing challenges with these new paradigms and know we aren’t alone. As enterprise adoption becomes more widespread, challenges mutate and multiply. This includes challenges with architecting a microservice app, struggles between dev needs and ops needs, learning and utilizing multiple orchestration environments, and communicating app architecture and dependencies across teams. In this talk, we will discuss these challenges and creative solutions to combat impending storms.

Blue-Green Deployments for Serverless Powered Applications on AWS

First described by Martin Fowler back in 2010, blue-green deployment is a release technique that reduces downtime and risk by running two identical production environments called Blue and Green. Fast-forwarding to 2013, Danilo Sato from ThoughtWorks published on company's blog a very insightful article that describes how to implement blue-green deployments using AWS. We, at Mitoc Group, are working primarily with serverless computing from AWS, and this talk will share our experience using blue-green deployment process for serverless powered applications.
